Fitness America 2009 Recap – Part 1
I’m officially a Fitness Competitor! And it feels great! So first, I have to be honest.. yes I’m disappointed in the overall result, placing wise. I’m very competitive and like anyone, I want to win! With that being said, I came here to have a great learning experience and that’s exactly what I did.
Final Placings:
- Fitness: 21st (out of 40)
- Figure-short: 6th .. 2 pts from 5th grr
So a recap..
Thursday
.. was one crazy busy day! We woke up early to get ready and look presentable for registration and the media sessions following. Even though we got down to registration right at 8am, we ended up waiting in line for almost 2 hours. But the time went by pretty quickly, especially with a coffee in hand, because there were so many people to meet and talk with. I ran into a bunch of girls I met at Camp Savage California, and it was wonderful to see them again. After registration we grabbed a quick snack before heading to a informational meeting. From there it was off to change for the media session. For whatever reason, I cannot understand, they decided to have the group shot take place in the pool. Ummm, now considering most of us were in the process of being tanned, this was seriously not the best idea. As a result many ladies were running off immediately after to get their tans corrected. Katie, Marlena & I were sure to get a few STS shots!
After media session there was a short break before I jumped in a cab to head over to the Bellagio for group pic. These pics were done professionally as well and I can’t wait to see them. We were all in white bikinis and I think the shots at dusk against the backdrop of the Bellagio fountains will be awesome! Here are a couple from my camera:
After that it was back to the hotel for ”Opening Number Rehearsal.” All the fitness competitor do an opening dance number thingy. I wasn’t completely thrilled about this because I absolutely stink at learning choreography! It takes me ages to understand and remember it, not to mention I was pretty tired at this point. After a couple hours all of us were exhausted and you could see it on everyone’s faces. We were excused to go around 9pm, and I rushed to get tanned again before one last meeting. Turns out my skin was not a fan of the tanning product being used, because after getting sprayed I basically turned green! Yeah, not an attractive look for the stage. Fortunately, I was able to get it showered off and have a different brand reapplied. I don’t have a good picture of my Kermit the Frog look, but perhaps I’m not too sad about that :p By this time it was past midnight, and I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been so completely exhausted!
Friday
I was up early to get breakfast down (I brought pre-made oatmeal with 1/2 scoop protein powder mixed in), before a morning filled with tanning and makeup appointments. Figure prelims were suppose to start at 1pm, but they were running over an 1.5 hrs behind, so I don’t think I actually got on stage until after 3:30. I was in the Short-class which was the 3rd group to go. Back stage was craziness! There was hardly any room to get ready. I wasn’t too nervous until right before I was about to go on stage then all of a sudden my heart started pounding like crazy! During my t-walk and posing I was shaking like a leaf, but my trainer said it wasn’t noticeable. The pic posted in my last entry was taken right after I got off stage. It felt great to get those first-time-on-stage jitters! I then headed back up to my room to chill for a bit before Fitness…
… Stay tuned for Part 2
