Yeah it was a wonderful day. As my arms ached by the end of lifting, my heart raced while running and the sweat poured off in Warrior II, my stresses and silly worries melted away. If I ever win the lottery, I’m handing out yoga memberships to each and every negative person I come across.. would do the world wonders
FITNESS
Cardio: SS Cardio. I ran for 20 minutes increasing from 6.0 – 7.0, then did Elliptical for an additional 10.
Up until 11 weeks out from show, I do 30 minutes of Cardio for either SS or HIIT, unless it’s a class, and those are 45-60 minutes. I see people posting about doing hours on the elliptical, and unless that’s something you really enjoy, I personally don’t think it’s necessary. JMO though.
Weights:
Shoulders: Arnold Press, Push-Press, Lat Raises
Back: Wide-grip Pull-ups, Lat Pull Downs, 1-arm DB rows Front Rows
NUTRITION
Today was my perfect kind of Saturday. I started it off by finally making it to the Old Town Scottsdale Farmer’s Market! I took a few pictures, but as usual I got caught up in my own wanders and forgot :0 It’s not a huge market but it had a couple Raw Vegan booths along with a big produce section.
I picked up some goodies. Let see if I remember it all: Goji Berries, Hemp Seeds, Bee Pollen, Chips, Raw Banana Raisin Crackers, Kale, Swiss Chard, Arugula, Strawberries, Tangerines, Meyer Lemons, Garlic, Snap Peas..
Before shopping I enjoyed 1/3 c Coach’s Oats topped with 3 oz plain Greek Yogurt that I mixed with 1 tsp Matcha Green Tea Powder and a dash of Stevia extract. I promise it was pretty but my camera battery didn’t feel like taking a picture..
After picking up so much fresh food, I dove into the Strawberries by using them to top a Berry Vega Shake (1/2 scoop Vega + 1/2 scoop Protein Powder + 1 tbsp ground Flax Seed + UVAB + Ice)..
Pre-workout I had my usual, 1/2 c Lactaid Cottage Cheese + 1/4 c plain Greek Yogurt + 1/2 scoop Cake Batter Protein Powder.. but this time I also mixed in 1/2 tbsp Bee Pollen, 1 tbsp Sunflower Seeds and Cinnamon..
I basically inhaled a tangerine after Yoga, and not long after made Kale wraps! Nothing fancy. I just mixed together 1/2 c Lactaid Cottage Cheese with 1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast, and added Gardein BBQ Shreds..
Dessert tonight was an Avocado Protein Shake (1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder + 1/2 tsp Unsweetened Cocoa + 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum + 1/2 frozen Avocado + Unsweetened Chocolate Almond Breeze + Ice), sprinkled with Unsweetened Coconut..
What would your perfect day look like? Mine would be similar to today, but I’d also add in a massage, then maybe drinks with friends.. I’m just too tired for drinks tonight :p
If you ever win the lottery, I’ll take that yoga membership! I need a good strong kick in the attitude right about now. lol It’s so easy to get caught up in the things that go wrong. Thanks for reminding me that I have things other people only dream of.
duuude, I’ve been wanting to try hemp seeds! but I opted for pollen instead. I want to try it though, I love the nutritional value for it. It blew me away!
I loved this post Alyson! Run your heart out, lift weights, I don’t enjoy yoga but I do realize it’s benefits. I used to do it all the time. This is the BEST medication!!! Who doesn’t get a boost after a good workout?
I know, I always start feeling better whenever I go for a run / lift weights. It’s not just the physical but mainly the psychological benefits I get from it that I am after. To me, it’s a form of meditation – complete focus thus inability to over analyze other things.

Why do you usually mix your vega with other protein powders? Do you like the taste better? I supplement with vega, but I find I usually bomb when I try to mix it with other stuff! I like the taste of vega, though, so I usually have it on it’s own. What are good combos that work for you?

I LOVE farmer’s markets! It’s fun both buying from other vendors and setting up as a vendor. Just love it!!!
My perfect day would be to hit the gym early, get in a great workout including cardio and weight training then a sauna and shower and then following your fantastic day here, I’d go out to the farmer’s markets and find delicious ingredients to make some fantastic meals. Invite friends over and make them a nutritions and delicious dinner, with perhaps a few cocktails and then rest and get ready to hit the gym again in the morning. YAY! Oh and the massage in there somewhere would be awesome!
