Boxing & Green Mud

Hi all! I’m glad you liked Pauline’s pics & thoughts. I know she’s extreme by some people’s standards, but her commitment to her beliefs and fitness is beautiful and I really do find it inspiring!

How was your day? I have to admit, I started the day with doubts. I wasn’t in a bad mood, but whenever I eat anything out of my ordinary diet, especially if it’s high in fat & carbs, I feel like crap for days. Today was no different. My stomach was pissed all day. I apologized and all but it was too late, it showed how angry it was for me treating it poorly :p But like usual, all it took was a killer workout!

FITNESS

Today was Shoulders & Back day with the trainer. Great as usual, with lots of pull-ups, various rows and presses. So my trainer is actually at a private training studio, not a big corporate gym, and recently he expanded the space and started offering group fitness classes. I hadn’t had a chance to a class yet but tonight I hung out after lifting and took the Extreme Boxing class. I’ve always liked boxing & kickboxing classes, and this one was no disappointment! We did non-stop drills for 45 minutes, resting for no more than 60 seconds at any time, and there weren’t many of those. I ended up burning 575 calories. Not gonna lie, my stomach was rumbling like crazy the whole time, but it was just what I needed to detox the system. Planning on taking the class again tomorrow!

NUTRITION

The detox theme continued with today’s eats too. I pushed as much H20 + BCAAs as possible, and did my best to get in protein, but really I just went with what my body was craving, good detox foods. And before I forget, I’ve had a lot of people ask with UVAB is.. it’s just Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze which has 40 cal for 1 cup :)

I snacked on a Plain & Simple Protein Pancake during class, and when I got home I made a..

Fruity Protein Green Monster

1 c Frozen Spinach

1/2 c Frozen Strawberries

1/2 Orange

1/2 c Egg Whites

1/2 scoop Cake Batter Protein Powder

1 tsp Glutamine

1 tsp BCAAs

1 tsp Bee Pollen

1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum

3/4 c UVAB

Blended up and topped with Goji Berries..

Chocolate Mud Yum

This may be a new favorite and it is so completely simply, a little ugly, but so tasty! I just mixed 2/3 c Wheat Bran mixed with 2/3 c UVAB, microwaved it for 1 minute then mixed in 1 scoop Chocolate Vega..

Between workouts I snacked on 4 oz Chicken Breast.

Dinner was delicious! I heated 2 cups chopped Baby Spinach with 1 package Shirataki Noodles, 2 oz Baby Shrimp, then stirred in Humnut Sauce (2 tbsp Hummus + 1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast + 2 tbsp H20)..

Dessert was a Kabocha Protein Shake (60 g frozen Kabocha + 1 scoop PB Protein Powder + 1 tsp Glutamine + 1 tsp BCAAs + 1 pack Stevia + 3/4 c UVAB + 2 ice Cubes + 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum)..

I usually avoid starchy carbs at night, but this just sounded so good and 60g isn’t too bad.. the Kabocha really thickens it up. Love it!

King of the House, aka Killer, wasn’t in the mood for a photo shoot..

In other fun news, I’m heading to Seattle on Friday for a friend’s wedding. No idea what I’m going to wear, but I’m super excited to see old friends. And coincidentally it’s Washington’s VegFest that weekend, so my Mom & I are going to check it out!

  2. i think your protein mud looks fabulous I have so much wheat bran at my house I need to find a way to use it all! thanks for the recommendation! i think I am going to bake later something protein filled mmmmm

    i cant find kabocha anywhere?!?!! where can I get it! maybe I need to look harder at whole foods?!

    your workout sounds JUST like what I love! high intensity and fast paced…love it!!

    So glad you cleared up that UVAB thing lol…for a long time now I was thinking it was some special supplement you added to things that’s I’d never heard about lol. I even googled it and came back empty so I was really confused…I’m glad I wasn’t the only one lol.

  4. So glad you found a group class you really enjoyed. Sounds like tons of fun. I wish my gym would start offering some more classes other than Spin and Pump. Seriously, I lift on my own so don’t need pump and the spin times are not varied enough you either go at noon or 5:30 period. Anyway….so jealous of the VegFest!! I know you’ll have a great time.

    I have a question — why are you taking so many BCAA’s when you’re still eating? I was wondering what the benefits are… is it because you’are cutting calories today? Or does it have something to do with ‘detox’? I’d be interested in knowing because I use BCAA’s, but usually around my workouts. Should I be taking them at other times, too?

    Kickboxing is so much fun! It’s my favorite form of cardio!

    LMAO! I am so hitting myself in the head right now for not realizing what UVAB was! and it’s something I keep on hand at all times! DOh!

    Again, your eats look fabulous. And I am sure they were. I also snack on turkey or chicken. I have a “meat” tooth versus a “sweet” tooth, haha.

    Regarding the meetup, i figured you had work stuff or you woulda replied. Would have loved to see your smiling face but i get it. Life. Work. Real stuff :)

    As for trainer Scott (my hubs is the same name)…he’s fab! The gym. Indeed totally nerve racking but I figured we all start somewhere and honestly it was filled with lots of older aged men in the 60s-70s and so they didnt have me too flustered or anything :)

    I love VEGA *mixed with sf vanilla/pancake syrup (lol). Yours ALMOST looks like my ‘Chocolate Brownie Batter’ (Chocolate Superfoods by Amazing grass). Try fibersmart from Renewlife or Genesis Today’s 4Fiber with your proteins!!! I look forward to it everyday!

    Oh I wish my trainer would do that. We used to have kickboxing at my gym, but they nixed it to put on yet another aerobic dance class (snore). It was only 2 days a week but I loved it, would be nice to have the option to go every day if I wanted to. Just don’t really want to join a MA club as they are so expensive and I already spend enough on the gym.

    I went a bit nuts with the Easter chocolates this past weekend and my stomach is still complaining about it. Back to clean eating and a bit of a carb down… :D
