It’s been a busy, but pretty darn productive, week so far for me! Today was filled with workouts, YNL client visits & planning, and IIN studying. So onto the details..
FITNESS
I had a killer Leg & Abs workout today!
Abs: Hanging Leg Lifts, Weighted Situps, Full Situps.. I’m forgetting something.. and I didn’t write it down :p
Legs: Lung Walk Skips, Weighted Lung Walks, Resistance Band Side Walks, Hack Squats, Leg Press, Bosu Ball DB Squats, Speed Stepups, Box Jumps, Hamstring Curls, SB Hamstring Curls
I usually go to a Kickboxing class on Tuesday nights, but it’s been 2.5 weeks since I’ve been to Yoga, I’ve been craving it (no better way to describe the feel), and boy did I need it mentally. It worked out perfectly, because my body was already feel pretty tired and achy. I did an hour long Power class. It wasn’t pretty, and I definitely wasn’t moving as smoothly and wasn’t as focused as I was just a few weeks ago (when I was going 5+ times a week), but nonetheless, I left feeling refreshed.. both body & mind. I really need to be better about making sure to get to Yoga a couple times a week, even when I’m increasingly cardio & intensity.. it’s worth it for my sanity
On a side note: It’s funny.. I hadn’t been to Yoga since our Arizona whether went from a cool & calm 95 F (yes, being completely serious that that is calm around these parts), to our current 110 F days. The Yoga I do is heated and the room is often around 100 F, so when I walked out of class today, it didn’t really feel all that hot out. Just another reason to get my butt to class!
NUTRITION
I knew exactly what I wanted when I woke up this morning.. I’ve been on such a Protein Pancake kick!
Today it was beautiful Blueberry Protein Pancakes. In the mix: 1 scoop Cake Batter Protein Powder + 2 tbsp ground Oats + 1/2 tsp Baking Powder + 1/4 c Egg Whites + 1/2 tbsp Udo’s Oil + Cinnamon + H20 + ~1/3 c fresh Blueberries).. yum
I’d been meaning to try these since the first time I saw them on Oh She Glows, but I’ve been a little hesitant. I love my sweet morning oats.. but I love all the savory ingredients.. so why wouldn’t I like it?! .. well I wish I hadn’t waited so long.. Savory oats.. you & I are going to be close friends
Mexican Inspired Savory Oats
1/3 c Oats (I used Coach’s Steel Cut)
1 c H20
1/4 c Vegetable Broth
1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast
2 tbsp Salsa
Salt & Pepper
1/4 c Cottage Cheese
1 tbsp Hummus
1/3 Avocado
Savory Oatmeal
Mix together H20 & Broth in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, add Oats and cook to desired texture. Remove from heat. Mix in Nutritional Yeast, 1 tbsp Salsa and Salt & Pepper. Pour into your favorite cute (or ugly, whatev) bowl and top with Cheese, Hummus, rest of Salsa and Avocado..
Curry Please
I tried something new tonight.. I picked up this Yellow Curry mix last grocery store trip (hi my name is Alyson, and it’s been 2.5 days since the last time I went to the grocery store..)
I cooked 4 oz Chicken Breast, that I’d cut into cubes, and a small handful of sliced Mushrooms, stovetop with 1/2 c of Yellow Curry Simmer Sauce.. It went perfectly with the Lentil Walnut Loaf..
Naturally there will be dessert in my future.. leaning towards.. shock of shocks.. Frozen Yogurt!
FUN
This is how Killer spends most of his days during the summer.. sprawled out under the fan..
Have you had savory oats? Any favorite combinations I should try?
I am still terrified of trying savoury oats, how your bowl looks SO good!
yuuuum, I've been meaning to try savory oats for a while too, especially since I got my hands on nutritional yeast. ahhhh, and your other post with the Match fitcinno. I am craving one right now! it makes me want to just buy the matcha powder from wholefoods, or online (probably cheaper!).
Hi, I usually just read in stealth to glean any fitness and nutrition tricks – I love your cat's pose though, hahaha
– reminds me of my own cat (long gone), nobody relaxes like cats!
Thanks for your blog
I have not tried savory oats yet, but have been seriously thinking about what combos sound good. I think mushrooms and spinach would be good. I have been wanting to make a curry dish, but it seems to hot right now LOL. Nicely done with the legs by the way! I need to come up with a better leg workout.
i have never tried savory oats and I think I am scared to try because I love the sweet ones so much! and the fact that I will probably screw it up!! can you come make some for me
I LOVE hot yoga! its one of the only types I truly enjoy doing!!
Savory oats are so delish!! The nutritional yeast is what makes 'em incredible. I top mine with roasted veggies and salsa…so good.
I want to spend my days like Killer!
Love the sound of your workout!
savory oats are deelish – I made mine with just almond milk, curry and nooch – but these sound really good too:)
I love savory oats in the winter. I put poached cage free egg in mine! Your dishes are so cute! Ours are what Mallard had pre-engagement.

Oh I love the sound of that! Poached eggs are one of those things I really like, but always forget about. Thanks for the reminder!
i've had suuuuch pancake cravings as of late! i'm thinking maybs for dinner tonight
haha i feel like on the weekends i look like your cat
I really have to start thinking outside of the box with food…pancakes for dinner, BRILLIANT! You're comment "hi my name is Alyson, and it’s been 2.5 days since the last time I went to the grocery store" made me laugh. I go every day sometimes more than once a day. I just try to think of it as the old world way of going to market every day to get fresh foods. We're not going to get a 12 step program offered by the grocers, so I think its a pretty healthy addiction.
