Inclined & Incepted

I was seriously struggling to find study motivation today. Ended up getting a bit in, and heading back to it in a few, but after cardio I rewarded myself by going to see “Inception.” I had my doubts because everyone has been raving about it.. but I have to admit.. it lived up expectations. It seems like one of those movies that you can get something new out of each time you see it. And there’s never anything wrong with starring at Leonardo DiCaprio for a couple hours.. remember when he was on Growing Pains back in the day? And the end?! wow ;)

FITNESS

Man, rest day yesterday really did me good! I was re-motivated and got in great cardio! I randomly woke up around 4:30am, and after lying in bed for 45 min. or so, I finally thought “screw it, might as well get my Steady State done early.”

AM Cardio: 30 min. Incline Treadmill walk

Weights: Mix of Upper Body.. Shoulder Presses, Lat Raises, L Pull-ups, Push-ups, Rear Delts, Tricep Press-downs, Pulley Curls

PM Cardio:

  • 5 min. warm-up walk at incline
  • 25 min. Incline Intervals: 10% incline, walk at 3.5 for 1 min., jog at 8.0 for 30 sec., repeat
  • 10 min. on the Adaptive Motion Elliptical

pheww, those Incline Intervals kill me! Even though 8.0 isn’t that fast, it’s amazing what an incline does. At the end of each 30 sec jog my legs were on fire!

I was writing this post when I looked down.. more evidence of lots of good cardio.. sorry sock :p

NUTRITION

I made Pancakes this morning with a new mix of ingredients in order to adjust to my new macros.. they tasted good, but turned out really flat and were not filling at all.. boo..

Post-workout I was so ready for this.. a PB Protein Ice Cream Sundae. I used 1/2 scoop protein powder and the last of the Puffed Millet..

Lunch was.. beautiful! And it actually filled me up :) .. Baby Spinach with Tomatoes, Artichoke Hearts and Pinto Beans (love the 365 brand no-sodium-added kind).. love love!

Of course I brought a snack with me to the movie, though I’d finished the whole thing during the first two previews :p .. it was right after Intervals! .. 1/3 c Oats with Blackberries..

Dinner was a great combo:

Shirataki Noodles with Humnut Sauce (2 tbsp Hummus + 1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast + 2 tbsp H20) + Sundried Tomatoes + Basil + 3 oz Wild Alaskan Salmon..

I’m hoping to crash early tonight, but dessert will be the usual Protein Ice Cream & Cookie. I just got 2 new flavors of Capella drops, Waffle and Chocolate Glazed Doughnut, that need to be tested.. I’ll letcha know how they are tomorrow!

FUN

NPC Show all day tomorrow. I’ll be tweeting throughout and hopefully uploading some pics. Good Luck to all the competitors!!

Weekend plans?

Have you seen “Inception”? Did you like it?

And what’s your favorite butt kicking cardio workout? I’m always looking for new ideas!

Have fun at the show tomorrow! LOVE that you brought oats to the movie theater – I need to do that! I like doing 10 minute HIIT intervals on the treadmill, elliptical, stairmaster then bike, which is in order of decreasing difficult for me. Your heart rate stays up high if you work hard but since it's "just 10 minutes" I feel I can push myself much harder!

Bringing oats to the movies=classic! I'm probably going to see that this weekend, so good timing on the 'review'. Eager to hear how you liked the waffle flavor Capella drops. I am a sucker for maple flavor in anything, so I'd love that one, I bet!

I really want to see that movie. I love Leo as an actor.

No weekend plans for me. I like those kind of weekends. My life is so scheduled I just flow on the weekends….kind of ;)

Hmmm…whenever I do step aerobics I get the most winded and sweat the most. I'm sure my trainer HATES that I love it but I do!! Incline on the tready are always a killer.

I love going to competitions…have fun!

Hey Alyson, just curious….when (as in when in your day) do you do weights? RIght after your a.m. cardio or right before your p.m. cardio?

I made your diet spinach bars tonight — they ROCK!!! I made mine this morning and then refrigerated them so I could have them for dinner. To reheat them, I sprayed a skillet with PAM and "fried" them! They had such a nice crispy crust and were so tasty. Oh and I added water chestnuts to the mix too, because I needed to use them up. Gave them a nice crunch!
Do you ever freeze a batch? I am wondering if I can do that and then reheat them on the stovetop again like I did tonight. Anyway, great recipe!

I totally BYOS (bring my own snack), I'll usually do raw almonds cause I love em and they are portable. I never like to drink at the movies cause my bladder is teeny.
I need to take a rest day soon, I'm beginning to feel the fatigue in my workouts.

  8. Hope you enjoyed the show!! Keep up the great work! Me, I do HIIT and the StepMill which both are my biggest kick butt cardio workouts.

    Thos blackberries look soooooooooooooooo good!

Great butt kicking cardio workout for me is kickboxing though I have recently taken up Capoiera (Brazilian Martial Arts/Acrobatics/Dance….yeah weird combo) though it is quite technical and has a lot of set moves, its loads of fun and gets a good sweat going.
